IMAGES in CONTEXT
A large part of creating this kind of art involves editing and recomposing the billboard paper. In other words, it involves removing the billboard from its original context and de-constructing its original meaning. The process results in a discovery of images and graphics that are unfamiliar, out of context, engaging the viewer in ways that requires re-seeing. In many ways the experience of viewing the billboard art is about re-experiencing, experiencing something that at a glance seems familiar but at closer look is not familiar at all.
Words I use to describe my work include re-appropriation, re-interpreting,
